Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro is one of Beijing's only African themed bars.

Hidden away in a hutong off Jiaodaokou Nan Dajie, Kilimanjaro is one of Beijing's only African themed bars. The outside is made up to look like a Massai hut, with two large plastic elephant tusks arching over the doorway; while the inside is adorned with visual clues aplenty as to the owner's favourite continent, including tribal masks, wood carvings of giraffes and various bits of artwork.

Aside from 15RMB Tsingtaos and a smattering of Africa-themed cocktails (38RMB each), Kilimanjaro's kitchen serves up a selection of tasty African snacks - the kebab selection for 48RMB can be a meal in itself or a snack between friends, and the 28RMB beef samosas are delicious. The owner Tina is a confirmed Feizhouphile and is happy to talk with you about her experiences in Africa, or to explain the many photos she took that now adorn the walls. The comfy sofas are arranged in a way that suggests coffee shop rather than bar, but for a quiet drink and a bite to eat this cosy little venue is definitely worth checking out.

138 Jiaodaokou Nan Dajie, next to Bo Tai hotel, Dongcheng district (137 0103 7131 and 8404 2298). Open 2pm-12pm daily.
