The Boat
Immediately standing out as one of Beijing's more original bar concepts, The Boat is the one you've probably seen driving past on the Liangma river near to Sanlitun Beixiaojie. Forget any ideas about sailing along Beijing's canals, however, as The Boat is weighed down by a thirty tonne block of concrete that keeps it very much stationary.

To get on board, there are two small bridges from the bank to the main deck. The first floor is a loungey area, with a small stage for live musicians and raised four-man booths made out of old lifeboats. Downstairs is devoted to dancing, with a loud sound system, portholes, a long bar and white leather sofas, and drinks prices hover around the 30RMB mark (with 20RMB Tsingtaos).
The open-air top deck will definitely be one to watch once summer rolls around, with outdoor events already planned, and The Boat has already roped in some of Beijing's most popular DJs for the official opening party on Friday 11th. If it manages to keep up its early momentum, The Boat could well be one to watch.
No. 8 Liangmahe Nan Lu (West of Sanlitun Beixiaojie), Chaoyang district (tel 6468 0735). Open 8pm-6am daily.
