The booze hound
Yin the money 100RMB all-you-can-drink at the glorious Yin Bar this month
Happily, it’s that time of the year again, and a host of roof terraces will be back this month: Bar Blu, Kokomo and Q Bar are all opening their terraces, and The Beach at Block 8 will once again act as Beijing’s mosquito coil, sucking in the capital’s hipsters.
Best of all, Yin Bar, the serene rooftop retreat next to the Forbidden City, will reopen on Saturday 18. When Yin first opened it set the standard for high-cost drinking with 60RMB bottles of Tsingtao (you know, the ones you can pick up in the supermarket for about two kuai).
So Yin’s reopening night offer is all the more flabbergasting when you consider how pricey the place usually is: a 100RMBbuffet ticket will get you unlimited wine, beer, cocktails and soft drinks, making it a practically unmissable night.
It’s a good opportunity to drink them dry and try to get your money’s worth for all the times you’ll be shelling out 60RMB for a bottle of local brew in the future.
Now on to a man whose very name seems to suggest an innate link with alcohol: Chad Lager. The Buddha of the Beijing bar scene has officially left Tun and will be working at a new venue by the time you read this.
Wherever he ends up, feel free to go rub his head and belly for good luck – he loves it when people do this. Ross Goulding
