Danger Doyle’s

Talk to Doyle if you need some danger

Danger Doyle’s isn’t technically a new bar, more a brand relaunch for Stadium, which started off life as an appendage to Drei Kronen 1308, China View’s well-appointed yet criminally expensive brauhaus.

Having not changed too much during the refurbishment was a smart decision, and Danger Doyle’s opens with the plus points that made Stadium a fun (if doomed) venue: namely the wood-fired clay pizza oven, pool table, plentiful TVs showing sports and an intimate performance stage.

The bar is decked out in lightwooden colours that add to the cosy pub feel. Spread over two floors, and with two outdoor terraces, Danger Doyle’s is also one of the largest bars in Beijing.

Prices are fairly decent, with 50RMB pints of Guinness, 25RMB for a Carlsberg and the tasty pizzas ranging from 48-78RMB. The bar is set to have a packed mid-week schedule, with an Irish singer being imported to play four nights a week, two-for-one pizza nights, drink deals and many other offerings.

The undeniable highlight of Danger Doyle’s, however, and the thing that really sets it apart from the over-generalised ‘Irish bar’ tag, is its expansive roof terrace (with obligatory decking, two bars and ample seating).

Covering an area of 520 square metres, the terrace offers views down on to the east side of the Workers’ Stadium.

Also of note is a glass section of the roof that looks down through the four-storey atrium of Drei Kronen – a dizzying and at times terrifying view, it’s hard not to imagine yourself plummeting through the glass and down on to one of the beer brewing vats below.

When we visited, everyone standing on that section seemed to be discussing survival techniques for that very dangerous outcome.

Danger Doyle’s China View, Building Block 5, Gongti Dong Lu, Chaoyang district (6591 3337). Open 10am-late daily.
