The booze hound

It’s back! White Rabbit returns

For those of you bemoaning the lack of blisters on your feet, or the abundance of serotonin in your system, it’s time to stop your wailing and moaning, for we bring you good news: White Rabbit is back, after four months away.

The new club will be in Sanlitun, on the first floor of the old China Doll in Tongli Studios, and will open some time this month. Expect a new name and an adapted concept, as originalowners Thomas Gaestadius and Yang Bing are joined by the Spencer Grey team, the team behind, among others, Alfa and Shanghai institution Muse.

The club will still push underground music, played through the same deafening speakers, but there will be a bit more house music this time round. The biggest change, though, will be in the feel of the place – expect tables, sofas and decent drinks.

This month should also see the opening of The Apothecary, next to Mosto on Nali Patio. The venture aims to to be a New Orleans-style cocktail bar, serving classic cocktails and authentic Creole bar food.

Bei chef Max Levy, a New Orleans native, is one of the partners in the venture – he’ll help the bar make its own bitters, syrups and pickles for cocktails, and will create the Creole menu (he studied Creole cooking for three years).

The décor will consist of handmade wood, with no nails. Combine this with the new White Rabbit, and we’ve got high hopes for Sanlitun this month. Ross Goulding
