Shooters

It’s hard to miss Shooters: ideally placed to attract the thirsty hordes, the corner location is adjacent to fellow cheap studenty booze-dens Kai and Poachers; the neon signboard illuminates Shooters’ mantra – that of the drunken teen in all of us – to the approaching patron: ‘Take a shot…. just have fun…’.

With that in mind, let’s get straight to the drinks as, let’s face it, one is not likely to venture in for the ambience. Patrons can choose from approximately one hundred varieties of the bar’s namesake; with heavyweight names such as Hard Rock and other cocktails that are largely vodka and tequila based. The prices – much like our expectations in general – were not high (15-30RMB); on both counts, leaving me pleasantly surprised.

Likewise the decor: happily, classy (special mention to the cool chequered floor and dark-wood table arrangements). Run by two of the barmen at nearby Sanlitun heavyweight The Tree, Shooters is an appealing bar to recline in. As well as comfortable bench seating there is a small outdoor area, though lone patrons are advised to avoid venturing outside unless they want to fall prey to the hovering beggars and drug pushers. A small mezzanine lounge provides a private respite – though perhaps it would be unwise to head upstairs if you are planning to sample more than a few of the menu offerings.
