Bobomee

The latest club to crowbar its way onto the already crowded Gongti Xi Lu is Bobomee, which sits opposite Babyface, between G3 and Pavillion. Although smaller than its neighbours (and with fewer VIP sections), Bobomee’s mini dance floor, meathead bouncers, metal detectors and dice still keep it in sync with the rest of the clubs. Yet this is the first Gongti venue to focus on vodka.

Bobomee is sponsored by Absolut: as such the menu sports every flavour of Absolut vodka imaginable, from vanilla to mango, all for 50RMB a glass (680RMB for a bottle).

Sadly, though, it doesn’t break new ground in any other direction. Décorwise its bright white interior looks great now, while it is still brand new, but give it a few weeks and the fresh white will give way to smoke-stained walls and soiled floors.

Drink prices are average, with Tsingtao’s costing 35RMB and standard house pours around 40RMB.The music choice is also predictable, with Black EyedPeas, R&B and chart music playing: we’re convinced that there’s a mad scientist out there cloning DJs.

If you’re a Gongti Xi Lu junkie, then Bobomee is bound to be a fashionable venue to go for a week or two before you return faithfully to your favourite haunt. For everyone else, don’t bother. Ross Goulding
