Jingzun Peking Duck

Jingzun’s raison d’etre is its Peking duck (68RMB). Sliced tableside, it’s presented neatly on one plate, dismissing the tradition of offering the skin first.

The duck is good but not spectacular: it’s as crispy, flavourful and succulent as Peking duck should be, if a bit greasy. However, it’s great value for money if you compare it to other upmarket places like Dadong Kaoya. What you should order is the duck bone soup (for 10RMB more).

As only the best meat is carved out, there’s a lot of meat and skin left from the back and thighs to create a chunky offering. The service is good if a supervisor is nearby, though plates will pile up if other staff are waiting on you.

Hopefully its quirks of service and food will be ironed out, as Jingzun is close to being the real deal.
