Gu Zhenhuang
Gu Zhenhuang is so proud of its Hong Kong-imported chef, Zhang Jingming, that the owner has put up a plaque with his name on it beside the entrance to this tiny courtyard house, just 200m from the end of Lotus Lane. That owner is a Hong Kong gourmand and writer (Gu Zhenhuang is his pen name), who set up this charming and understated restaurant to showcase the best in Cantonese cooking, in a town that he felt lacked decent Cantonese restaurants. Chef Zhang has been dubbed the ‘Young Kitchen God’ for his expertise in the southern culinary technique of keeping the inside of food tender and moist while cooking it to a state of crispiness on the outside. Only set meals are available.
