Yuxiang Renjia

Yuxiang Renjia opened in 1998, and is still going strong, despite the establishment of a slew of new Sichuanese competitors.

This restaurant has kept traditional dishes on the menu, unlike many of the newer restaurants that have followed a nouveau approach, which can lead to culinary disaster. As if to emphasise the point, walls are decorated with black-and-white photos of traditional houses, river towns and people in the south, along with strings of dried red chillies and garlic hanging.

Waitresses, who wear simple Chinese blouses, are peasantly charming. Pick classic Sichuan dishes like kongbao chicken, lazi chicken, mapo doufu, camphor smoked duck, or twice-cooked pork, and you will not be disappointed.
