Shanghai Tang

One of the few Chinese brands that should need no introduction, Shanghai Tang is still the number one purveyor of pop chinoiserie and vibrant, catwalk-worthy clothing in the world. Despite the label’s creator, Hong Kong entrepreneur David Tang, refuting claims that the brand is a perfect example of East meets West design, a stroll round the boutique suggests that’s just what it is. Hip, sky blue women’s trenchcoats with Chinese knot buttons are displayed alongside tangerine-coloured qipaos and men’s jackets complete with French cuffs, mandarin collar and Tang’s signature two-tone double fish motif. Accessories like silk-covered diaries, stationery, candles and handbags also feature. Designed in China they may be, but prepare for Western prices.
