The Hangover – out now on Blu-ray and DVD
The great British ‘stag do’ may involve some sort of outdoor pursuit, a few jars of the local ale and perhaps a visit to some sort of after-hours table-dancing establishment, but for the red-blooded, middle-class males of the USA, it’s Vegas all the way.

US director Todd Phillips – who gave us ‘Road Trip’ in 2000 and ‘Old School’ in 2003 – offers a comic salute to that timeworn institution as he returns with a raucously funny fratcom which sees four long-time buddies heading out to Nevada’s gaming Valhalla to send off one of their number before he ties the knot.

The film places us in the shoes of these four reprobates as they go out for a night of partying. So far so unexceptional, until the next morning when three of them wake up back at their hotel feeling the worse for wear, trying to recall their recent antics and piece together what happened. Why does Stu have a tooth missing? Why does Alan now have a baby? Why is there a tiger in the bathroom? And, crucially, where is the groom?

The mystery is on, and writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore throw enough zaniness into the mix to make the truth about their wild night as bizarre as it is entertaining. Though the principal leads (Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper) bounce off each other well, Galifianakis walks away with the film as the groom’s geeky but endearing brother-in-law. The Hangover (15) is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.

Viva Las Vegas!
Few cities on the planet are as iconic as Las Vegas – and perhaps none are as much fun. It all begins on the Strip, where the bright lights draw you into throbbing clubs, moody bars, world famous shows and, of course, the resort hotels where you can take a chance at the casino, see a show or enjoy a cocktail or two. Foodies will adore the vast range of restaurants. Celebrity chefs including Wolfgang Puck and Alain Ducasse have set up restaurants here, but there are eateries for every budget and palate. Elaborately themed nightclubs stay open until dawn and if you want something more laid-back, there’s a new wave of ‘ultra lounges’ on the Strip. Chances are you’ll bump into a few stars on your rambles – Las Vegas is a place to see and be seen, even for A-listers – but if not, the city always wows visitors with a glittering line-up of performers and world exclusives. Warm up your winter with a seat at one of the hot shows in town. Peepshow at Planet Hollywood is a full-throttle show starring Holly Madison, while Viva Elvis is the newest Cirque du Soleil production, opening at the new Aria Hotel in City Center (www.arialasvegas.com ). The dollar is looking pretty good again for shoppers. From designer splurges to bargain deals, Las Vegas is a one-stop shopping hub, with everything from souvenir shops to haute couture boutiques.
