20th Time Out Live Awards - Comedy

The list of TO Comedy Award winners includes many who went on to gain national and international recognition: Bill Bailey, Jo Brand, Lee Evans, Harry Hill, Eddie Izzard, Phil Jupitus, Daniel Kitson, Al Murray (the Pub Landlord), Ross Noble. This year's contenders, carefully selected after much discussion and consultation with leading London promoters, look set to maintain that tradition.

Best Stand-Up
CHRIS ADDISON has several very successful solo shows to his name and he's been nominated for the Perrier Award. The complete professional in every way. He's at his very best when he's playing with ideas.
RUSSELL BRAND is probably the most exciting stand-up of his generation. Challenging, often provocative and always likely to take you off on the comic equivalent of a roller-coaster ride.
ANDREW MAXWELL earned the label 'King of Comedy' on the back of the Channel 4 TV show. His recent 'Full Mooners' nights at the Comedy Store have already become the stuff of legend. Highly rated by fellow comedians.

Best Comedy Performance
MITCH BENN is the big man with a big voice and a huge comic talent. His superb ability to combine topical humour with inventive musicality makes Benn a rare commodity nowadays.
MARCUS BRIGSTOCKE can move effortlessly from sharp parody (as in his spoof travelogues for radio in the character of Giles Wemmbley Hogg) to biting satire (as in his angry stand-up rants). Here's a comic who continually reinvents himself.
SARAH KENDALL came here from Australia over five years ago and hasn't put a foot wrong since. Imaginative, thoughtful, always absorbing and a natural stand-up who's always ready to take chances.

Outstanding Achievement
ROBIN INCE is a comedian with a multitude of skills and a determination never to do the obvious. His whole approach is the antithesis of cock gags and kebab humour - hence his mightily successful and unusual shows under the banner of The Book Club.
MARK WATSON is rightly famous for his two astonishing comic marathons 'Mark Watson's Over-Ambitious 24-Hour Show' and '2005 Years in 2005 Minutes'. He's ace over any kind of shorter distance too.
ANDY ZALTZMAN is a splendidly funny political comedian with a small 'p' and a breathtaking ability to combine many different kinds of material into a splendidly coherent whole.
