One of ten designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the area, this is in fact an amalgamation of three churches, built at different times under one pitched roof. It is speculated that the Orthodox church was built on an earlier pagan site, due to its location overlooking the cold sulphur streams that run through Kalopanagiotis. The earliest structure dates from the 11th century (though its second nave followed 100 years later); a narthex was subsequently added before a 15th-century Latin chapel completed the picture. In the Latin portion you will find the most complete Italo-Byzantine frescoes in Cyprus, their panels illustrating an acrostic hymn which takes the first letter of its stanzas from the Greek alphabet.
