Hala Sultan Tekke review Rate it

The mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke was built on the shores of this tranquil salt lake around 1760 in honour of the Prophet Mohammed's aunt, who was buried here after being thrown from her mule during the first Arab raid on Cyprus. It is now an important shrine for Muslim pilgrimage. The best times to go are in spring and autumn, when migratory flamingos stop en route to and from Africa - the pink flocks are a wonderful sight. The mosque itself is surrounded by a copse of tall palm and cypress trees.During the summer months the salt lake is dry - but the ground is not as solid as it looks, so watch your step.
