Adjoining the monastery of the same name (Agios Ioannis Lambadistis Monastery) is a museum of Byzantine icons from local churches, with works dating from the 12th to the 16th centuries. Many of the items in the collection are rare, as the priest will most likely inform you. If you've been to Kykkos Monastery and have seen the icon encased in silver there, feast your eyes on an approximation of what lies beneath in the local version of the Virgin Eleousa (Merciful). Especially fascinating is a series of 13th-century icons which are all but blank, having been destroyed by damp when they were hidden in a basement by priests fleeing the invading Ottomans.
