Aigaio has been holding the fort in the old town since the 1980s, before anyone else dared venture into what was then a dark, dead-end part of town. It has also steadfastly held its number one position in locals' hearts (and stomachs) with its truly exceptional food. It is probably the best restaurant of its kind in Nicosia, if not the entire island, offering unusual meze from the Greek mainland alongside classic dishes. A bookshop is attached, while the owner's strongly felt politics are displayed all over the walls. Booking is essential.
