Despite its slightly earnest mission statement (that 'all children, as citizens, have the same cultural entitlements as adults'), the Ark is, more than anything else, really good fun. It stages theatrical productions and exhibitions that have been created by children for children, while also running a regular programme of children's workshops with a wide but resolutely arty remit (how to build musical instruments, stage plays, productions and much more). All events take place during the day and make the most of the centre's fantastic amenities: there's an indoor theatre, an outdoor amphitheatre, gallery spaces and a workshop. Check the website or drop into the centre to see what activities are scheduled during your visit.
