In a concealed courtyard sandwiched between Pleasant's Place and the back of Daintree stationery shop on Lower Camden Street, this adorable new venture has already won itself a loyal following. Inside, it looks a little like a 1950s kitchen (in a good, Cath Kidston kind of way), while the terrace is an altogether funkier affair, with little eaves covered by murals and weird and wonderful designs, all overhung by a homemade scaffold of thick bamboo poles. But, whether you're inside or out, the food is the same consisting of the eponymous cakes (all own-made, all delicious), as well as biscuits, pies and cupcakes, a number of sandwiches, great salads (caramelised pear, blue cheese and walnut, say) and some more ambitious hot dishes. Everything is served on artfully mismatched crockery and the staff are delightful. A hidden treasure.
