Despite an auspicious beginning (it was one of the first purpose-built department stores in the world when it was founded in 1853), Clery & Co has long since been overtaken by its swisher, more modern competitors. But, that said, its elegant premises (the wonderful old staircases, in particular) still exude a traditional charm and its decent selection of menswear (Kangol, Wrangler, YSL) and womenswear (Karen Millen, Miss Selfridge, Sisley, Topshop) keeps it in the race.
