Travel information: getting around Dubrovnik

Stroll around the Old Town and take buses elsewhere

By Peterjon Cresswell

The best way to discover Dubrovnik is by walking - in fact, the only way to get around the traffic-free Old Town is by walking. Everywhere else - Lapad, Babin Kuk, Gruž - is linked by orange Libertas buses. Don't forget that there's a cablecar now in place to scale Mount Srdj and get a panoramic view at the same time.

The main bus hub is by the Pile Gate. From here, Nos.1 and 1A run to Gruž, its bus station and main ferry terminal. No.4 runs directly to the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace in Lapad. Nos.6 and 7 run to Babin Kuk. In the other direction, past Ploce, Nos.5 and 8 go to the far eastern terminus at Victoria. You can buy tickets (14kn for two journeys) from newsstands, just stamp on board. There are cabs at the Pile Gate. Taxis start at 25kn and charge 8kn per km – expect a 70kn-80kn bill for Gruž. Call one on 970.
