Canny Man's review

It's been around since 1871. It looks as if it was decorated by a mad maiden aunt from the Victorian era. It has a good wine list, an excellent bar menu (the open sandwiches are legendary), and a truly exceptional selection of single malt whiskies. The catch? It's a fair schlep into Morningside and the sign by the door says 'Dress smart but casual', and it means it. Also known as the Volunteer Arms.
