Legend has it that this place got its name from the motif on a snuff box presented by King James VI some years before he legged it to London to become James I of England. For many, the enticing bar menu and selection of guest beers is a reward for tramping over Arthur's Seat. This place is as close as you'll get to an historic country pub in Edinburgh: Duddingston Loch is virtually on the doorstep of the Sheep Heid, as are the wildlife delights of Holyrood Park.

Fully restored, yet just the same atmosphere as always - including a warming open fire in the bar. Lovely place for dining, and don't forget the Skittle Alley
The atmosphere of this place is wonderful especially given Edinburgh's usually cold/windy climate, it's warm and welcoming and the boardgames in the corner make it easy to spend an entire afternoon there. The food and the service is good. I'd recommend it to anyone.
