Before today's style bars, Edinburgh had a few 'classic' pubs. Some of them were Victorian and ornate, while other places traded on a different reputation; the Athletic Arms was famous for serving the best pint of McEwan's 80/- in town. Some things remain unchanged; the beer here is still decent, and most locals still call the place the Diggers, after the gravediggers from the nearby
cemetery who used to drink here.
