Thousands of free tickets for attractions across Scotland, including Edinburgh Castle, are to be given away as part of this year’s St Andrew’s Day celebrations later this month.

For the Ticket Giveaway weekend on November 28-29, Historic Scotland will be giving away free tickets for 35 attractions across the country, including Edinburgh Castle and Craigmillar Castle. Entrance to Edinburgh Castle usually costs £16.50 per adult and £9.90 for children.

To get your hands on the free tickets, you need to apply on the Ticket Giveaway website by 5pm on Friday November 27. Visitors can apply for a maximum of two adult and three family tickets – admitting up to two adults and three children – for each attraction they wish to visit. There’s no limit on the number of sites visitors can apply for tickets to, although the organisers say early registration is recommended.

Other attractions participating in the event include Dryburgh Abbey in the Borders, Mary Queen of Scots’ birthplace Linlithgow Palace and Skara Brae in Orkney.

Meanwhile, the Palace of Holyroodhouse has also announced they will be also giving away free tickets on Sunday November 29.

Admission to the Queen's official Edinburgh pad with a complimentary audio guide will be available to visitors who register in advance on the palace's website. The commentary will include the history of the palace and its links to figures such as Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
