Three of the best club events in Edinburgh this week

There’s a definite international flavour to this week’s finest offerings, with one guest from Minneapolis, Minnesota and an English house icon preparing for a summer in Ibiza. Yet it’s the homegrown event we’re looking forward to the most, celebrating Record Store Day in old-school style with the return of Edinburgh house night Yip Yap, in association with local vinyl store Underground Solush’n.

Substance x Pulse with DVS1 – The Bongo Club, Fri Apr 17
Two of Edinburgh’s most prominent and capable techno nights join forces once again to welcome a special guest all the way from Minneapolis, Minnesota, the city which also brought us Prince and Bob Dylan. DVS1, aka Zak Khutoretsky, is nothing like either of them, a producer of minimal and moody techno grooves who owns his own HUSH and Mistress labels and has recorded on Derrick May’s Transmat and Ben Klock’s Klockworks, the latter a fellow Berghain/Panoramabar regular. Also appearing will be residents Gavin Richardson and Darrell Harding.

Nightvision presents The Road to Tribal Sessions – Liquid Room, Sat Apr 18
If you’ve caught the whiff of sun cream in the air recently it may have turned you on to thoughts of summer holidays, and to ideas of visiting Ibiza if you’re the clubbing way inclined. In which case, this Road to Tribal Sessions triple bill should get you going, with Leeds-born house DJ and producer Darius Syrossian (pictured) in charge and frequent collaborators Sante and Sidney Charles also on the bill.

Yip Yap Reunion – La Belle Angele, Sat Apr 18
A return that’s dear to the hearts of all Edinburgh clubbers of a certain age, Yip Yap was one of the defining nights on the local club scene in the mid-90s, a regular event at the old La Belle Angele which helped bring quality house to the city in much the same way as the seminal Pure introduced techno music. Here, for one night only, original residents Gareth Sommerville (latterly of the long-running Ultragroove) and Davey Brown host a joint reunion and Record Store Day afterparty for Edinburgh’s revered Underground Solush’n store.
