The Stand's big weekend comedy shows see its 160-capacity basement space at its uproarious best; arrive early for a good seat. However, weekday shows can offer some surprises. Established performers such as Miles Jupp and Craig Hill cut their teeth at Monday's popular Red Raw newcomers' night (£1); Wednesdays are generally devoted to more diverse forms of comedy, including sketch shows and satire. Increasingly, though, Thursday shows are the ones to catch, with Frankie Boyle often taking on compère duties. Sunday afternoons have a more laid-back vibe, with battered sofas, a simple menu and free improv.
