If 'boutique' means in some way 'small and individual', then Rick's deserved the epithet when it opened in 2000: a city centre bar-restaurant with ten modish rooms above. The location, the atmosphere and the sense of style were all praised, although a decade of wear and tear didn't do it any favours. Happily, though, the rooms and the bar-restaurant were freshened up in 2009. The accommodation still has a quiet, understated chic; as long as the staff aren't run off their feet, breakfast is pretty good, as are the cocktails in the Rick's bar.
