The Stand's 160-capacity basement space is at its uproarious best at the big weekend shows; arrive early for a good seat. But this is a seven-day operation, and the feelgood weekday shows are full of surprises. Established performers such as Miles Jupp and Craig Hill cut their teeth at Monday's popular Red Raw newcomers' night (£2); other shows focus on sketch comedy, satire, female comics and even gay comedy. Sunday afternoons have a more laid-back vibe, with battered sofas, a simple menu and improvised comedy. During the Fringe, the Stand takes over a number of additional spaces in the area.
