Built in 1905, this elegant old-time institution is managed, along with the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, by the Festival City Theatres Trust. The programme mixes musicals with star-studded serious drama, usually on pre- or post-West End tours; highlights of recent seasons have included Sir Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in Waiting for Godot and Neil Morrissey in Rain Man. Every December, there's a highly popular pantomime.
