Sympathetic in situ or just historical pastiche? Originally the Scandic Crown, this hotel divided opinion when it opened just over 20 years ago. Either way, it got a multi-million-pound internal revamp in 2005, thanks to new owners Radisson SAS and Glasgow design experts Graven Images. The result is a clean-cut, sleek and monochromatic look with subtle Scottish motifs. Service standards are high, and you'll walk out of reception on to the Royal Mile.
