Originally three Victorian townhouses, the Bonham has at various points been used for private housing, a medical practice and a hall of residence for female medical students. It opened as a hotel in 1998, with contemporary art (all of it by young Scottish artists), stylish furniture, attractive bedrooms and a decent, spacious restaurant. More than a decade on, it's lasted very well indeed. Sister hotels in the Town House Collection include the Howard and the Edinburgh Residence, both just as impressive.
