The Roxburghe is a deceptively large venue with an elegant address, no distance at all from the west end of Princes Street. Lurking away behind the classical New Town façade (the building is the work of Robert Adam) is a small pool, a gym and 198 bedrooms done up in a style not uncommon in the city: the 19th century meets the 21st. The location is good all year round, but the Roxburghe is particularly handy during the Edinburgh International Book Festival, which is staged right on its doorstep.
