Established as a hotel in 1819, this building has been used for a variety of different purposes uses during its 180-year life, most recently as local authority offices. However, after a refurbishment, it reopened in 2009 and became the Edinburgh flagship for the Apex chain. Modern, comfortable and handsome in a 21st century sort of way, the rooms at the front of the building overlook the historic Old Calton Cemetery across the road. Some premium rooms in a 1970s-era extension at the back have expansive views but others don't; ask when booking.
