Museum of Edinburgh review

While the People's Story across the road is a tribute to hardship and to Edinburgh's redoubtable working class folk, the Museum of Edinburgh is a shrine to the burgesses and the patrician classes. Housed in Huntly House, three original tenements dating from 1570, the displays are fabulously eclectic: Roman coins, Victorian silverware, a piece of the shaft of the original Mercat Cross, even the collar and bowl of Greyfriars Bobby. The original version of the National Covenant of 1638 is housed here; some of its signatures are in blood. Staffing constraints mean that access is occasionally limited, but even there's still plenty to see even when only one of the two floors is open.
