As the street-front brasserie of the Scotsman Hotel, formerly the headquarters of the Scotsman newspaper (from 1904 to 1999), the fixtures and fittings here are Edwardian-plush with a modern makeover. The seating is split over two levels, and the cooking is aspirational and very 'now' (baby artichoke and truffle salad, then sea bream with basil minestrone for example). It all buzzes along nicely when it's busy.
