Few visitors find a reason to head into this slightly suburban part of town, but the New Bell may be worth the trip. Owned by Richard and Michelle Heller, the restaurant occupies the neatly, traditionally decorated first floor of a 17th-century building, above a pub called, yes, the Old Bell. The menu offers bistro-style cooking with mains such as duck breast with barley, black pudding and anise jus.
Open 5.30-9pm Mon-Thur; noon-2pm, 5.30-9pm Fri, Sat; 12.30-2pm, 5.30-9pm Sun.
Main courses £15.
