This nautical-themed venue tries to cover the whole subcontinent rather than just India, with some Thai dishes thrown in for good measure. The menu has all the usual suspects but plenty more besides: you can have Himalayan trout or lamb jalfrezi, tandoori chicken or Bangladeshi-style prawns. A popular and populist feature of the new Leith.

I am from outside Edinburgh but occasionally visit and Britannia Spice has become one of my favourite restaurants to dine in for the past few years. It has consistantly outstanding quality with superb and attentive staff. Infact I would be as bold to say that it is the staff management that make this restaurant what it is. The layout of the restaurant based on the royal yacht britannia which was effectively illustrated in its decor.
On our last visit we chose the Chef's selection menu prepared with many eastern favourites. For starters we were given Tandoori Lamb Chop , Pakora and Somosa. The lamb was very tender and tasty. It took a bit of time for the first course to arrive but it was definitely worth the wait.
For the main course we were given the option of Chicken or Lamb Tikka Massalam. All served with Basmati Pilao Rice and Garlic Nan . The lamb dish called Harrey Masley Ka Gosht had just the right amount of spice, it was medium hot so wasn't overly powering. We also had the Bangladesh Fresh Water King Prawn Jhall Frezie (photo attached) which as you can see was beautifully presented. This dish was just exceptional!
Overall the meal was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent and the presentation was very extravogent. Not the usual Indian restaurant layout or feel. Very good value! I highly recommend this restaurant, we will definitely be back on our next visit to Edinburgh!
Our total bill for the evening was £52.25 for two including drink which was very reasonable considering the amazing food and lovely atmosphere.
