The world's most famous golf complex is only an 50-mile drive from Edinburgh and offers seven courses. For the world-famous Old Course, the minimum handicap is 24 (men) and 36 (women). Open Monday to Saturday, the course is booked months in advance, though half the slots are available daily via a ballot system. The other five 18-hole courses can all be booked online (reserve at least one month ahead except for Saturday play, which can only be booked 24 hours ahead); reservations aren't accepted on the nine-hole Balgove course. In winter, the Balgove costs just £8 for nine holes, the economical way to play at St Andrews.
