Frank Miller finds his 'Spirit'
'Good Shepherd' star Gabriel Macht is set to play comic book hero the Spirit
Frank Miller has picked ‘Good Shepherd’ star Gabriel Macht to play the title role in his adaptation of Will Eisner’s legendary comic book creation ‘The Spirit’.The up-and-coming actor will star as the rookie cop who fakes his own death so that he can battle crime in the shadows of Central City.
Miller, who wrote and co-directed ‘Sin City’ will also pen the script, which sees the Spirit do battle with the Octopus, a villain hell-bent on destroying the city and killing its inhabitants.
Speaking of the casting, Lionsgate president of film production Mike Paseornek said ‘We think Gabriel has a devilishly charming quality, and the dry wit that embodies the Spirit, and we wanted to do this with someone who can embody this character for the next few years, because we anticipate we’ll be making more than one Spirit movie.’
‘The Spirit’ is set to go in production in October for a 2009 release.
