Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ to close LFF
Danny Boyle’s new film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ will close this year’s London Film Festival, it was announced today
Adapted by ‘Full Monty’ writer Simon Beaufoy from the novel ‘Q&A’ by Vikas Swarup, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ tells the story of an orphan boy accused of cheating during his appearance on the Indian version of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’, and his ensuing interrogation by police. Featuring Dev Patel of 'Skins' in the lead, the cast is rounded out by an all-Indian ensemble.Boyle filmed ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ on location on the streets of Mumbai.
Boyle will be appearing at the festival to introduce the film, and to give a career interview as part of the LFF’s Screen Talks series.
The announcement follows news that Ron Howard’s adaptation of Peter Morgan’s play ‘Frost/Nixon’ will screen as the festival’s opening night gala. The film reimagines the series of notorious interviews which took place between the outgoing US President and the intractable British journalist in 1974. Frank Langella and Michael Sheen reprise their onstage roles as the respective leads.
