'Saw III' and 'Death Sentence' about to begin

James Wan will direct 'Death Sentence' and produce the third of the 'Saw' flicks.

May  5 2006

James Wan will direct 'Death Sentence', a revenge thriller based on a novel by Brian Garfield.

Garfield wrote the novel that 'Death Wish' was based on, and 'Death Sentence' follows much the same template, revolving around a father who tracks down and kills the gang members responsible for the death of his family during an initiation.

In related news, the 'Saw' franchise, which Wan co-created with James Whannell, continues to expand at a rate of knots, with part three set to start principal photography in Toronto on Monday.

Bahar Soomekh ('Crash') and Angus Mac Fadyen ('Braveheart') have joined the cast, while Darren Lynn Bousman will direct Whannell's screenplay, which again concerns the psychotic fantasies of serial killer Jigsaw.

'Saw III' should hit screens at Halloween, with part IV doubtless going into production soon after.
