Deneuve heads Venice jury

The French star will take charge of the jury, while Kenneth Branagh will premiere his new film at the fest.

Jun 15 2006

French superstar Catherine Deneuve will reside over the main competition jury at this year's Venice Film Festival.

The festival runs from August 30 to September 9, and Biennale president Davide Croff and artistic director Marco Mueller said they were pleased with the appointment in a joint statement.

'We're proud for a personality like Catherine Deneuve to preside over Venice's jury' they said. 'Her magical charisma and her knowledge of cinema as a protagonist will give serenity and balance to the work of the jury.'

They also announced that the festival will host the premiere of Kenneth Branagh's big screen opera adaptation 'The Magic Flute' at La Fenice opera house on September 3.
