Michell leaves Bond

British helmer Roger Michell will no longer be directing the next installment in the franchise.

Aug 16 2006

Having entered into negotiations to helm the follow-up to 'Casino Royale', Roger Michell has graciously bowed out of the next film in the Bond franchise.

The 'Enduring Love' director told Screen Daily 'I've decided not to do it. I was very tempted. I spent a long time working on it but I wasn't tempted enough to actually jump in.'

Ever the gentleman however, Michell said he was sure Daniel Craig would 'make a wonderful Bond' and that producers Eon are 'a wonderful gang'.

'Casino Royale' will hit screens on November 17, while an announcement will doubtless be made about the director of Bond 22 in the near future.
