Walken marries Travolta

Christopher Walken will play John Travolta's onscreen husband in the forthcoming musical 'Hairspray'.

Aug 17 2006

Christopher Walken is to replace Jim Broadbent in the forthcoming film version of the stage version of the film 'Hairspray'.

Walken joins John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden and newcomer Nikki Blonsky in the musical, which will be directed by Adam Shankman.

'Chris was the person Scott and I wanted in the first place and this is a happy end to this particular saga' songwriter Marc Shaiman said. 'It seems like this part allows him to coalesce all his skills into one role. I am constantly pessimistic, but I look at this cast and feel like I've fallen into an old MGM musical.'

As for us, we're extremely optimistic about the remake, if only because it means we'll get to see Travolta, in drag, singing and dancing with onscreen hubby Walken in the show-stopping number 'Timeless'.
