'Marie' no match for Marty at box office

Martin Scorsese's 'The Departed' sees off a challenge from Sofia Coppola's 'Marie Antoinette' on London chart.

Oct 24 2006

The filmgoers of London got themselves into a bit of a rut over the weekend, attending exactly the same films as they did the week before. The result? 'The Departed' remains at number one, 'The Devil Wears Prada' is still at two and 'The History Boys' continue to pack them in at three.

Further down the chart it's all change however, with Sofia Coppola's 'Marie Antoinette' splitting audiences as it did critics and coming straight in at number four with a £93,706 haul.

'The Last Kiss' was another new entry at five, unable to scale the successful heights of Zach Braff's previous romantic comedy 'Garden State'.

'The Queen' then drops from four to six, while below Her Majesty there are a hat-trick of further new entries: dull Kevin Costner action pic 'The Guardian' at seven, pointless horror sequel 'The Grudge 2' at eight and Indian action flick 'Don' at nine, while animated kiddie flick 'Open Season' rounds out the chart at ten.

Next week, 'A Good Year' and 'Red Road' should make a splash, but Scorsese and co. might just hang onto the top spot.
