DVD round-up from The TOMB
Check out our guide to the best DVDs to buy this Christmas.
Dec 8 2006
With Christmas fast approaching, I thought I'd list a few new DVD releases that might make good gift ideas.
First up, I really enjoyed the latest series of 'Creature Comforts', in which the great British public are turned into exquisite plasticine creations for our viewing pleasure. With the latest Aardman feature, 'Flushed Away', proving to be distinctly underwhelming, this series will remind you just how talented these guys are.
On the blockbuster front, I'd have to plump for 'Superman Returns', a rip-roaring entry into the franchise that features a note-perfect performance from Brandon Routh as the 'Man of Steel'. And if Supes floats you're boat, you'll want to check out Richard Donner's fantastic restored version of 'Superman II' that hit shelves a few weeks ago.
The biggest release of the last few months is undoubtedly 'King Kong: Extended Edition' a 3 DVD package that features an even longer cut of Peter Jackson's film (though it proved to be too much monkey for me).
'The Terminator Trilogy: Deluxe Edition' is also a fine package for any overgrown boys out there, a six-disc set that combines three fine films with extensive background information.
And if it's something more festive you're after, 'It's a Wonderful Life' was re-released yet again in November, and is pretty much required viewing come Christmas Eve.
