Stephen Fry and Franc Roddam kick off a series of articles by and about directors.

Time Out is currently running a series of articles in conjunction with Direct, the magazine of the Directors Guild of Great Britain, and the first two have been posted online.

Stephen Fry discusses his work with the likes of Robert Altman and John Schlesinger, and considers what sets film directors apart from everyone else on set. He also claims that pre- and post-production are far more influential on the final film than anything shot during principal photography. To read that feature, click here.
