'Basic Instinct 2' Ready to Roll

The London-set sequel finally gets off the ground, with David Morrisey playing opposite Sharon Stone's Catherine Tramell.

Jan  7 2005

After years of confusion, chaos and delay, the sequel to 'Basic Instinct' is finally set to roll before cameras, with Brit David Morrisey the surprise choice to star opposite Sharon Stone.

Fighting off stiff competition from Kurt Russell, Bruce Greenwood and Benjamin Bratt, all of whom were rumoured to have been in the frame for the role at one time or other, Morrisey's casting appears to have taken Hollywood pretty much by surprise.

British viewers will recognise the actor from his TV work on 'State of Play', 'The Deal', and recent musical drama 'Blackpool', and he has also just finished work on the Stephen Woolley-directed biopic 'The Wild and Wycked World of Brian Jones', but this will be Morrisey's first foray into true blockbuster territory.

Stone meanwhile, will doubtless have her fingers (though not her legs) crossed that reprising her role as serial shagger Catherine Tramell will help erase the memory of last year's colossal debacle 'Catwoman'.

The film, which is to be called 'Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction', re-locates the sex-mad author from San Francisco to London, and pits her against Morrisey's Dr Andrew Glass, a criminal psychologist evaluating the promiscuous little minx for Scotland Yard.

Michael Caton-Jones ('Scandal', 'This Boy's Life' and, ahem, 'The Jackal') is on directing duties, and filming will take place in and around London from March.
