'The Constant Gardener' dominates BAFTA nominations

Fernando Meirelles' film receives 10 nominations, while 'Brokeback Mountain' and 'Crash' pick up nine.

Jan 19 2006

The BAFTA nominations have been announced and 'The Constant Gardener' leads the way with 10 nominations.

As well as being nominated for best film and best British film, the political thriller picked up nominations for lead actors Rachel Weisz and Ralph Fiennes, and director Fernando Meirelles.

'Brokeback Mountain' and 'Crash' weren't far behind with nine nominations, while 'Memoirs of a Geisha', 'Pride & Prejudice' and 'Goodnight and Good Luck' were bringing up the rear with six nominations apiece.

Indeed it was a particularly good day for 'Good Night and Good Luck' helmer George Clooney. As well as receiving nominations for his script and direction of the film, he was also nominated in the best supporting actor category twice over – for 'Good Night' and also for 'Syriana'.
